Molise
is a region of Southern Italy with a population
of about 320,000. The region is administratively
divided in 2 provinces: the province of
Campobasso - the capital - and the province
of Isernia. With an area of 4,438 km2,
Molise is, after Val d'Aosta, the second
smallest region in Italy, and the youngest
region in the country as a whole, when
the territory was separated from the Abruzzo
region. In December 27, 1963, Molise became
the 20th region of Italy.
Dal 24 novembre 2005 il Molise ha anche
una sieda istituzionale a Bruxelles.
From a geographical
point of view, the territory of Molise
comprises hill zones and mountainous reliefs.
It is crossed by 5 rivers: the Sangro,
the Trigno, the Volturno, the Biferno
and the Fortone. Most of the inhabited
areas are located in the mountainous regions.
The agricultural and artisan activities
such as copper working - still one of
the most lively traditions - predominate
on the regions’s economy. The decline
of farming and the complete abandon of
the mountains maintain the region having
the highest number of emigrants. The
region has developed only during the last
10 years.
Molise offers sea, mountains, lakes,
rivers, and hillsides. Molise’s
traditions are bound up with the semplicity
of the its people as is the extent of
its cuisine.
In Molise you can find farm holiday hotesl,
hotels bed and breakfast, inn apartments,
restaurant residences.
Molise is only a small sized little known
region of south Italy where people are
still very much tied to its traditional
customs and uses. |
